Catherine Grady, was born
in Paisley Scotland, to Irish immigrants from Westport, Mayo County
Ireland. Beginning in 1907, her oldest brother, Michael began a chain
immigration to the United States, first settling in Cleveland and then
Columbus Ohio. Catherine and her sister Annie arrived in the United

It is believed that Roy
may have met Catherine at a dance. They both enjoyed going out on the
town and they both liked to dance. They were married in Columbus on May
4, 1915. Sometime during the depression, they leased a very large house
at 599 E. Rich St. The house was large enough to sub-lease some of the
additional rooms as well as the upstairs. Catherine would prepare a
boarding house supper every night. After dinner, Roy would walk across
Main Street to the Family Grill and drink a couple of beers with the
men.
Catherine and Roy had only
one child, Ernest Leroy Plymale, in April of 1917. Family Evenings were
spent gathered around the radio listening to popular radio programs and
on weekends they could often be found at Franklin Park. Roy and
Catherine loved to travel. As a family, they enjoyed traveling. They
made trips to the World’s Fair and once vacationed at Niagra Falls.
Catherine died in her
sleep on April 14, 1958. Roy died September 20, 1961 at Grant Hospital.
They are both buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
