John Fred Plymale was born on a farm in Adams County,
Ohio on February 23, 1902. His parents moved to a farm in Wayne County, West
Virginia about 1904. He attended the Central Graded School on Buffalo Creek,
graduated from Buffalo High School in 1923 and after serving a short term in the United
States Navy, he attended Morris Harvey College when located at Barboursville, West
Virginia. He was employed by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad Company in the
transportation department for over forty years, retiring June 30, 1965.
He was a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Cabell Lodge
No. 152, Huntington, West Virginia and is a member of the "General Society of
Mayflower Descendants" of Plymouth, Mass., and a member of the "West Virginia
Society of Mayflower Descendants," being a descendant of Captain Miles Standish in
the tenth generation, through his mother's side of the family.
He is a conservative Democrat, and was twice elected to serve on a
charter board for the purpose of drafting a new City Charter. He helped draft the present
City Charter which was voted on and approved on February 23, 1965.
His chief sports are hunting and fishing, and during summer months he
gets exercise pitching horse shoes. In his later years, he developed an interest in
genealogy research, and spent an incredible amount of time gathering data for the
compilation of the book on which this web-site is largely based.
